On my last post, Milk it for What it’s Worth, a friend asked if organic milk negates the hormone problem. Not knowing the answer, I thought I’d do a little research this week. Now, my initial reaction is to agree with her that organic milk is better than conventional milk. However, labels and seals do not always mean what we think they should.

A certain friend of mine has been asking me about the differences between soy and almond milk. As many of you know, I dislike milk and never use it. However, I have at one time or another used milk, soy milk, and almond milk. Even though I’ve ingested all three, I’ve never really looked into which might be better. And I’m going to hazard that the answer is one my graduate school professor used all the time: “It depends!”

Food waste is a topic I have been meaning to tackle, but I’ve been lazy. While we put all our food waste in a bucket and truck it over to our friend’s farm where it is either turned into beautiful enriching soil or fed to the animals, I still find myself ruminating on the plethora of food we actually produce versus the fact that people are still hungry.

I spent the past week in southern New Mexico enjoying time with family and green chilies. My husband had work outside Las Cruces near White Sands and my family lives just 2 hours northwest of there in Silver City.
